Call a Aborist and get a professional opinion on the tree’s. Consider an exterior color change to your home. Some Colors draw light while others reflect it. Use shear curtains instead of drapes. Make sure no furniture is blocking a window. Consider a sky light. Upgrade the lighting in your home.
I painted the dark paneling, doors and kitchen all white. It mad a world of difference.

I would suggest tube lights and using lighter paint colors /furniture in your home. It will make the biggest difference!
If the eaves are extra large, the design was meant to keep light out. Adding lamps and reflective surfaces indoors will help.
