  • Hi Connie,

Do you have any places in your community that have a bulletin board. You may have luck finding a handy man if you check out local information boards. I live in a very small town and our grocery store and pharmacy both have spaces where you can tact a flyer for the community to see. I would also consider networking with neighbors, family, or church members. They may be able to recommend someone.

Here at Hometalk we do not give referrals to anyone in particular when it comes to tradespersons.

You could start by contacting the BBB in the area that you live. They should be able to provide you with a list of reputable services that do the type of work you are seeking.

As far as payment, be sure that you and the tradesperson both sign a written contract for any job to be done before any money exchanges hands. The terms of payment as agreed upon by the two of you can easily be written into the contract. Blank contracts can be found and printed out from the internet.

Remember that neither a 'verbal agreement' or 'handshake' is considered a legal contract and will not be enough to protect you from duped or cheated.

Hi Connie. Check and see if you can sign up on Next Door. This is a great community site that you can post something like this on.
