Rather than have pet food and water bowls on the floor where they constantly get bumped and spilled, I built this dog food and water station that not only keeps the bowls up and out of the way, it also holds a container for the dog food underneath so you have one less thing taking up space on your floor.

For this project, you will need a few 1x4s, some plywood, an air-tight tote, a couple dog bowls, some hinges, a magnetic latch, a handle, and stain or paint. (I found the stainless steel bowls at Dollar Tree! They have a couple different sizes.)

You will also need a drill and a jig saw. I also used a pocket hole jig, but if you don’t have one, you could use joining straps and regular wood screws instead.

You will need to make yours to fit the bin you have. We used the Sterilite Ultra 10 gallon bin. I made the inside dimensions around 1/2” larger than my bin. First I cut two plywood rectangles to my desired interior dimensions. I had some scrap pieces that were around 1/2” thick. Next, I cut my 1x4s. The side pieces were cut to the same length as the shorts sides of my plywood pieces. The front and back were cut to the length of the long side plus 2 x the thickness of the boards. Each side was made up by four 1x4s. When the sides were cut, I used the pocket hole jig to attach the four boards of each side together, EXCEPT for on the front. For the front, I attached the lower three together, and left the top piece separate.

Next, I attached the sides and back together, also using pocket holes. For the front, I only attached the line top board to the top boards of each side. The other three will be attached with hinges later.

For the top, I used the jig saw to cut holes for the bowls. This needs to be slightly larger than the main section of the bowl, but smaller than the upper rim.

I attached the plywood top and bottoms in place with a nail gun and brad nails. The plywood should fit snuggly inside the rectangle of 1x4s you have built.

For the front, attach the hinges to the bottom 1x4 and the plywood bottom. Attach your magnetic latch to either the sides or top.

If you teach your hinges like we did, you will need to add feet to your bin so the door can open. We used some scrap wood pieces and cut feet that are around 1/2” tall.

Sand, stain, and add your handle! We also added little felt pieces onto the feet.

The bowls are easily removable to be washed, and the bin slides into the little compartment.

Here is our finished feeding station!

Got any similar ideas that will work for eight small pups, two kitties and a tiny house? All inside babies.

    I love yours!
