How do I level out a particlewood floor?

I've got 50 year old floors with some missing laminate squares. The ones left are raised at the edges. How do I get the floor level to do something to it?

You need to remove the tiles and sand down the particle board.. The best thing to do is to totally remove the entire floor. Particle board is not a good subfloor will continue to have issues and crumble. Remove and replace with plywood. Then you can start with installing a new floor with confidence.

It’s the parquet floor tiles that are the problem or the subfloor or both?

Yes, it sounds like the subfloor has deteriorated & you’ll need to get to it in order to fix it.

50 years is a long time for flooring to last.

If they're just jabs from peeling tile up, use wood putty or bondo, then sand. If it's warped in large patches you need to cut that part out and replace it. If you're going to lay tile, take it out and put in fiber cement board so the tile mortar will stick.
