How to Make a Yardstick Stool

3 Materials
1 Hour

I love upcycled projects. You know. The ones that you make from something that never intended to be what you turn it into. Something that starts life as something else.

Sitting there.

Until something much cuter came along.

Here's how I turned yardsticks into a farmhouse stool.

Here's the yard stick stool that I made.

It is such an easy project!

All you need is a basic wooden stool that you can find at any craft store (or yard sale) and some wood glue and yard sticks.

Step 1: Start by painting the stool

You can also stain the stool if you red doesn't match your decor. This stool was created for a fun vintage bathroom and the red color truly made it pop.

Step 2: Find yardsticks

You will need about 2-3 yardsticks for this project. The more vintage they are the better. A couple of these yard sticks have a vintage hardware store name on them that gives them even more personality.

Step 3: Cut the yardsticks to fit

You want two yardsticks to row on the stool in a staggered pattern.

Here you can see the staggered seams of the yardsticks.

In this example, we cut one yardstick at 8" and one yardstick at 4" to cover the entire 12" width of the stool.

Step 4: Glue yardsticks in place

After your yardsticks are cut and ready to be put on the stool, all that's left is to glue them in place.

Let the glue dry and your stool is ready to decorate with.

One more upcycled project that finished WAY cuter than it started.

Were these yardsticks (36") or rulers (12")?

Why didn't you just use rulers? They are the 12 inch length you said we would need. Am I missing something?

I love everything about this! I have an old step stool that my daddy made and I may just spruce it up with some yardsticks.
