I need to scrub my toilet without water diluting the cleaning solution. Do I need to shut off the water, or is there an easier way? - thanks

    Hi Jeanette,

You would have to shut off the water from the underside of the toilet, flush to drain the bowl and tank. Because the valve is closed no water will enter the tank. Now you can clean the toilet without any dilution. Re-open the valve when you are done, the tank will fill, then you can once again flush.

The only other way I can think of is to siphon the water in the toilet bowl to another drain or a container, you would do his by using a hose and a source of suction.

I use a 2 liter soda bottle to suck up the remaining water from the toilet when needed. Squeeze the bottle then insert in the water, it will suck up the water as it returns to original shape.

you can use comet cleanser and the water doesn't dilute it enough to stop it from cleaning

You could use a pumice stone which is not affected by water. Personally, I have learned from housecleaning professionals that they use bleach in their cleaning. I have used bleach in my toilets and it does the job nicely even though it does get diluted.

Are you finding that your solutions are ineffective?

In my situation with very hard water I am finding that all the commercial solution and most tips and tricks are not very helpful. I have found using the Pumice stick to be the most effective way to clean my toilets. They can be found at Walmart for about two dollars.

I plunge my toilet until the water is almost all gone from the bowl. Then I add the cleanser and let it sit for a while before flushing and adding water.
