I have never tried this but I have heard of people putting sand in paint and then painting the walls. I would check with the local paint store like Sherwin-Williams for help

Joint compound is great to use to texture a wall. I taped off everything & used lots of dropcloths and used my hands/trowel/putty knife to apply and smear it all over the walls in a bathroom until I got a stucco look. Let it dry thoroughly (I think it took a few days) before you paint---or if you like the color, then leave it natural, but the color will be mottled and uneven. If left unpainted, be sure to seal the wall with a clear coat of poly so the joint compound is sealed. Also be aware that the joint compound is on the wall for good. You would have to completely redo the walls if you want to get rid of the stucco. After 15 years, the walls in my client's bathroom still look nice. Good luck!

We texturized our damaged walls by sponge painting the walls. It hid the warping and roughness completely.

For large areas, you can rent a texture hopper and compressor to create a matching texture to the rest of your house. For small areas, you can just buy a spray can of texture and feather it in.

I knew a friend who wanted his fireplace wall texturised his fireplace wall of a thatch cottage he had just refurbished. He made up plaster ,got a scrumpled up plastic bag and dipped it into the plaster and put it on the wall and it looked great. He had tried many other ways but this was the best. This guy was a brilliant DIY guy, give this a go. Pub it in and as you are swirl the plastic bag away it all makes a very nice design. Good luck
