How do you make your own landscape rocks?

I want to put 3-5 landscape rocks in my front 'do over' and the price is killing me! I heard about wire forms and spray concrete; is this the only other way to get affordable large stones?

You might be able to get some from the woods or a construction site where they are clearing out.
