How can I refinish a veneer table that has some bubbles in it?

Bubbles under the veneer, right?

Have you pressed down on the bubbles? Did it crack the veneer? Did it press down flat?

If yes, to the above, I would buy wood glue that dries clear, a large syringe & inject the glue under the bubbles. After wiping off the excess, you’ll need to put a piece of Glad Wrap (clear plastic) on it and then an old towel and then concrete blocks or stacks of bricks. As in 30 lbs of pressure on it.

This is assuming you don’t own large scale furniture clamps.

It needs to dry for at least 48 hours as that plastic wrap isn’t going to let it breathe. Check on it in 24 and see what glue mess needs to be wiped off and use a fresh piece of plastic wrap.

Then you can work on the stain & finish problems.

I too have some bubbles on the top of my d.r. table. My husband said use my steam iron. But previously he had advised what Cheryl above says. I usually use a tablecloth when dining here and my table is not expensive, just looks good, and bubbles not too noticeable so I may just leave them.

Try to inject glue through the bubbles into the base timber and weight them down till stuck. When flat, re- finish. If polished wood, rub it down and when all the same re-finish as desired.

If you intend to slit the wood - do it with the grain and not against it.

Use a glue that dries clear. You can buy a syringe - some glues come with there own.
