Can I chalk paint fabric?

Wanting to paint fabric on a black fabric upholstered chair for my craft room. Is there a way to do that? Maybe a different type of paint? I know I have seen something like this before on Hometalk!

You can chalk paint fabric. Simply paint the fabric like you would a wood and after it dries lightly sand it to make it smooth.
