Here are a few things you can do to brighten. Room. Hang a light colored tapestry. Amazon has loads of tapestries for a low price. Hang a large one on your wall to help bring a lighter color into the space. For the curtains you could hang them on the sides of your window. And the string lights can be hung across the ceiling like where crown mold would be hung.

  • You could mount the lights behind the curtains, like in this post, or you could string them up and around the window frames. I have also seen people string them across the entire ceiling, covering the whole thing like a grid. Very bright...

I live in a mobile home which is entirely paneled,I gave the walls a light sanding, primed, then painted with a nice bright, light color! I removed the plastic baseboards and replaced with wood ones from Home Depot and painted them white! I am a 69 yr.old 83lb. woman,so you can do it too! However, if that isn't possible for you, I wouldn't use red curtains to brighten the room, and I "love red,it is an accent color in my house, but they won't brighten an already dark paneled room,I would go with cream colored curtains, and use red accents about the room.My curtains are actually black, with red and golden yellow accents,ie. yellow throw pillows on dark gray sofas. You don't say whether you have carpet, but light area rugs can help brighten the room too!
