How can I remove tape residue from a vinyl floor?

Have had a rug in my apt. for 5 years. Forgot that 2 sides had tape to hold it in place when it was in my home. Lifted an edge. Found tape residue on the apartment vinal floor. Suggestions what I can use to get the residue off without damaging the vinyl? Checked Goof Off! directions. Said it "might" damage vinyl; check in inconspicious place. Past experience has taught me that sometimes it takes a while for damage to show. Afraid to use it. Please help!Ilene

I've used spray cooking oil and either a round plastic scrubbie, or a plastic scraper to remove adhesive residue off many surfaces. It may take a few applications to get it all off. Spray let sit 10 mins, scrub or scrape, use a paper towel to lift the adhesive bits off. Reapply as needed.

Thank you. I'll give it a try. I have net covered sponges from The Dollar Store. Is that the same as a scrubbie?

Goo Gone is a fantastic product for just this job. It comes in spray or liquid form and we've used both to remove tape & label residue like you describe.

Thank you. I have had many helpful suggestions. Saw a post from someone using Coca-Cola to clean rust in toilets. Tried Coke. Melted the adhesive. People drink this stuff ! Thank you again. Ilene
