How can I do an eclectic mix of decor without it looking messy?

My taste is very eclectic and not matchy. I just painted the panels in my basement and am trying to use what I have to give it a fresh look. Can I use mixed metals, wicker, burlap together without it looking like a mess? Any suggestions. I have some things that go with Tuscan/old Italy look and some things lean toward country.

I would first decide what direction you want to take the room (Italian or country), then stick to either mixed metals or texture. Just my thoughts!

Use what makes you happy. Your house, your rules. Especially in a basement, it is fun to go a little wild. I have always mixed metals, whether en vogue or not. You can always rotate decor items in and out to change the mood or go with the seasons.

pick just a few colors and repeat them throughout your home for continuity and flow.
