My DH wears sleeveless undershirts and no matter what we try they always turn a dingy gray. How can we keep them white or make them white, again?
I would not subject them to massive amounts of chlorine bleach, because it can be caustic.
If they’ve been dried in a dryer with bad stains, this process may never completely work, sorry.
I would soak them in the washer with an oxygenated bleach and let them just sit there for a full day.
Drain & then do a hot wash with borax and dye free soap, two rinses.
If there’s still spots, do not dry them in the dryer, but use a clothes line. And then re-do this process again, later.
Hi Jane, you could try this method. https://www.hunker.com/12391065/how-to-whiten-towels
I agree with Cheryl to not use regular bleach (bleach that is not fabric safe) as it may just eat through the fibres in the towels.
You might also want to try washing them in Mrs. Stewart's bluing.
It's been used since 1883.
