There are commercial products (my favorite is Nature's Miracle) at pet stores. READ and FOLLOW the instructions - they are not the normal wipe-on-wipe-off! Or, if there are no pets in your home any more, you can also use baking soda. Sprinkle it on, let it sit several hours and vacuum up. Remember that a dog or cat's sense of smell is hundreds of times more sensitive than a person. If you can't smell it, they probably still can - which is why the Nature's Miracle enzyme solution is so effective. If they can smell it, they'll just re-use the same spot.

If you have carpet, it needs to be deep cleaned with an odor neutralizing product, as the smells get into the padding and even the sub floor. Ditto any upholstered furniture they have been on very much. For issues with a cat litter box, we had the best luck with the charcoal odor absorbers. An unscented candle or even a few strategically lit and then extinguished matches usually will help against the random immediate odors.

  • Nature's Miracle, an enzyme cleaner that smells like oranges. works great!
