Soap and hot water and a scrub brush. If t the grime is really bad, add baking soda to a bit of liquid soap such as Dawn to form a paste and rub that in well with a soft cloth and then rinse well. Follow up with a mixture of rubbing alcohol and water mixed half and half. That should make your counters clean and sanitize them as well.

If soap and water is not sufficient (as we have seen it like in rentals on cabinets) here is the easiest way to clean. Clean 4 by 6 inches at a time, let it set, scrub with a tooth brush, and wipe it off. This really works and does not hurt the cabinets, it is called Meguiars auto rim degreaser from the auto parts store.

Always make sure to give a product a chance to work. If you just spray something and immediately wipe it off, you won't give the product a chance to work and waste $$/time. Once you get them clean it should only take a few minutes to keep them up. Good luck!

If you are talking about a flat horizontal surface of Laminate or Quartz then try Clorox Clean Up. It cuts right through grease and dirt. Let it sit about a minute then scrub with a scrubber sponge like Scotch Brite.
