    Chalk paint

  • Depending on the finish, you may want to use primer, especially if you are using a light color of paint.

Clean well, let dry, prime, and then paint.

“Any” is too big of a category.

How do you expect it to perform? As in a kitchen or bathroom gets a ton of abuse and they must be cleanable.

What condition is the surface in now?

    How valuable is the piece?

Think twice before painting over something that has a resale value three times better if it were refurbished in a period-appropriate finish!

I’d ask at a reputable paint store. Possibly something like BIN or a similar product? Zinsser makes a couple of products which I have used.

Kilz primer. You may need to lightly sand to remove any shine.
