Liquid starch and paper doilies are both absorbent. When you put them over the food, they will absorb anything from oils, juices, sauces to condensation.
Instead of having your hard work erased in two seconds, let’s work on drilling small holes on the sides of plastic bowls of using a colander, with the handle cut off. Both from the dollar store.
I save unused hotel shower caps. They cover a plate of food keeping bugs out. It works well.
Hey Vicki! I think I know what you are talking about...my grandma made some like this when I was a little girl! She crocheted large doilies, and then put them in a bowl with liquid starch! She then laid them over a large bowl while they were wet with the liquid starch. Let them sit overnight, depending on temperature where you are and humidity, maybe shorter, maybe longer... The when they are removed from the bowl, they are stiff as can be and have the shape of a picnic cover! Not sure if this is similar to what you are talking about or not, but hope it helps!
