A power washer is the best for cleaning stone, brick and patios. Check out my post:

I find that the power washer spits up the dirt from between the bricks. I have used a spray containing white vinegar ,a small amount if dish soap and water. I put it in a spray bottle but I bet you could use a sprayer that you hand pump. If you don't get the results you nee, try less water and more vinegar.
