How can I waterproof painters tarp for use on a patio?

I'm making a cover out of painters tarp, for my patio . But I need it to be water proof. What can I use other than scotch guard?

Try Thompsons water seal. You may need a few coats though so depending on how big your project is you will want to figure out how to buy this in bulk. And it sounds like a tarp will be big so you will have to see if you can get something bigger than a spray can to make this work. I don't know if this is better than scotch guard because I have never used this product personally but this is what I would use to make material outdoor sufficient! Good luck!
