You’re going to have to be able to get to the base, and that Will require turning off the water at the shut off valve.

If it is a bathtub, you may not have access to a shut off valve and then you’ll have to turn off the whole water for the house and back drain the system.

    Without knowing more about it,

you’ll have to expose the base of the pipe and determine if it’s been soldered copper or if it’s galvanized pipe or PVC,

whatever it is and you’ll have to repair and replace whatever needs fixing, after you can see it.

Go to YouTube and try to find a repair video that is similar to your faucet and watch it carefully a few times. Then either grab your tools and supplies, or call a plumber. It will save you money on your water bill, possibly, and be worth your labor or money. Best wishes, and take photos or make a short video, if you can, then post it on Hometalk.com. Many people would like to see your project, I’m sure. Jewell
