Why is there no air flow coming through the vents of my new AC unit?

The company that installed my new AC unit for a property that is currently being occupied by a tenant, cannot figure out why there is no air flow coming from the vents. They replaced the ducting, so there are no holes or tears. It is the proper sized unit. They told me the set the fan motor on the highest setting. But there is still no air flow. They’re telling me I should be satisfied since it’s cooled off the house. But it won’t get cooler than 75, and that’s at night. I feel I like if my tenant wants to put it to 68 degrees, it should get to 68 degrees. Is that an unreasonable request? Or is there something I’m missing?

No, this is not an unreasonable expectation at all.

Being able to set an A/C down to only 75 degrees is not right.

Did the installation company leave you with any owner's manual or instruction booklet?

It is a Goodman package unit outside the house. 2.5 tons for an 11000 sq ft house. It was a local company that keeps coming out to tinker with it, but aren’t giving any answers. My tenant’s patience is understandably done and I’m at a loss of what to do for her while trying to figure this out.

Sorry! Accidentally added an extra 0...it’s an 1,100 sq ft home. Luckily the company fixed the problem. She also had a couple of vents blocked with furniture. It’s cooling the house properly but to go an extra step I’m looking in to replacing the floor registers to aid in the air flow. We also provided portable ACs to keep her cool through figuring it out. Plus rent reduction. TX laws aren’t quite the same as AZ, but I would never deny a tenant relief while an issue like this gets fixed.

If you are not happy with the service of the company that did the installation you do have the option of calling in another contractor. Unfortunately you will have to pay another contractor on top of what you have already paid but you may get some answers you don't have right now. If this is a brand new unit you should be having NO problems with it--particularily if they also did duct work. If this is a defective unit it should be replaced by the contractor that installed it. Obviously something is not right.

Is the A/C a brand new unit, not a 'reconditioned' one?

    Are all the vents unblocked?

Does your contract for the work order installation say anything about customer satisfaction?

Oh, that's good to hear that everything seems to be working fine now.

      Thanks for the update.

Yes, I was wondering about the vents.

Just another thought about the floor registers: If you get the style that can be adjusted from fully opened to fully closed, a person can close them off in the rooms that are not being used at a particular time. This will increase the output to the rooms that are being used, especially if the latter are fully opened.

Also, keeping the doors of individual rooms closed if possible will help contain the cooler air inside selected locations where and when you may require it the most.
