How can I smooth and repair the top of a desk?

The top of my desk has like some sharp things on it from a store that was a sale item for a discount price how do I cover the holes and try to make it smooth not sure it it is compressed wood kinda looks like it

You can wood fill, sand and paint. You can always add a new top.
