First, let me say the room looks wonderful. You did a great job of decorating.

    To add clothing storage:

In the section where the wall is plain blue you could hang a rod and shelf for clothing. You can use 2 of the kind of brackets designed for inside closets and a short (maybe 2-3 feet) section of closet rod. Add a shelf (using those same brackets) above it and a couple of decent looking baskets or bins and you have a substitute for drawers.

Raise the bed using bed risers and tuck drawers on wheels underneath. Or, if funds allow, create a platform bed using upper kitchen cabinets like go above a refrigerator or sturdy bookshelves on their side or short dressers at the corners of the be with a good, strong piece of 3/4 inch plywood attached to whatever you use to raise the bed. If short dressers, the drawers are already there. If bookshelves or kitchen cabinets, you can use those fabric drawer things or baskets to hold clothing and shoes and whatever else he needs.

The more you can use vertical space (by raising the bed or stacking furniture, the better. Even just adding more of those white cubbies that you have in the corner of the light wall with the planet decal could be used to store clothing. They can be put next to each other or added vertically in the corners with a closet rod attached between them. (If going vertical in the corners, make sure to attach them to the wall so they can't be pulled over, especially if adding a closet rod.)

    HI Vicki,

A couple of ideas come to mind. There is a lot of wall space between the blue wall and the window (where the white bookcase is located. I'd build or install a full wall of shelving on that wall. It could be built in but I'd suggest keeping it a light color to give the illusion of more room. In that shelving, I'd include a place for his computer so it also acts like a desk. Another thought is that his bed is too big for that room. I'm guessing he wants that large bed, but honestly, I think that's part of the problem. I'd also remove all the smaller units that are taking up space since everything could fit on the new wall unit. You didn't mention a closet, but if there is one there, I'd retro fit it by removed the old hanging bar and installing a closet organizing system. We did ours before they were popular so we have hanging racks at 2 different heights to accommodate clothing better and also incorporated shelves as part of that redo. Things like sweaters, sweatshirts, etc, can be folded and stored on those shelves. I hope some of these ideas inspire you. Wishing you the best.

Wonderful boy's room but I certainly see you problem! I agree that a smaller bed and/or raising it is a great idea. IF you can find used dressers or other heavy, strong pieces of furniture that are all the same height, that would be one of your best solutions and I bet your son would love being up high! 🤗

This kills a bunch of birds with a few old stones. The drawer storage would be fabulous and if it's high enough, a desk can also be situated underneath.

PLEASE please make sure that everything with the bed platform and furniture is strong enough to never collapse! And secure everything together so it can't be pulled or fall over!

Keep this placed in the middle of the room so everyone can move about.

I would get rid of all the storage units scattered about. Pick 1 wall and put in what would normally be inside a closet: high shelves, brackets and a clothes rod, shoe organization, etc. Work w/ the guys at a place like home depot to pick their brains about closet set-ups. Having everything uniform (same make) will be a big step for beauty and storage!

Have you considered a loft bed? this would put the bed up high and underneath you could have a desk to hold the computer and lounge area like a bean bag to sit on to play his video games. I agree with the others about getting rid of all the small storage units.

Maybe one of these ideas will work for you: https://www.pinterest.com/explore/no-closet-solutions/

  • If a twin bed could fit in the niche wall where you have the decal I'd put it there and do a wall of storage behind the door. Not sure on space but you could buy a wardrobe with and hanging rod inside and a matching shelf unit to put there side by side? Again not sure on space but a built in might even be a option behind the door, that way as you open the door you face a bed and all busy, open is hidden behind the door. Baskets are a great option to make a neat, tidy look but in his style choice I'm thinking colored plastic storage bins would be the way to go.

A hanging clothing rod can be hung by rope on each end from the ceiling which allows storing clothes with minimal

    space being used.

I would suggest that you change the conventional bed that is in the room now with either a trundle bed with built in storage drawers below, or a loft style bed with integrated underneath wardrobe. These will make the vertical space in the room more efficient, and will help create more floor space.
