Do I have to wax a chalk-painted upholstered lounge chair?

I have this lounge that has sentimental value but it seems better days and doesn't or didn't go with my place. I used chalk paint and tried to follow those youtube instructions. I love the look with the chalk paint on the upholsterd portion and wood. But I love the matte chalky finish and don't want to wax it - is that okay or will the paint come off of the upholstery. The chair isn't used a lot - like once a month maybe. Any advice is appreciated. I will try to google an answer (I used Behr Tin White chalk paint and roughly 2 to 1 with water.
