I have a laminate backsplash behind both my stove and sink. I want to remove it to put up subway tile. How do I remove the laminate which was glued to sheetrock … this sheetrock was never painted. thank you.

All you can do is pry it off and be prepared to patch or repair.

Try a hair dryer to warm it up and see if the glue will soften so it could be easier to remove the laminate. It will be a slow process but may do a better job than trying to scrape it off and leaving resididual glue.

You will probably want to remove the sheetrock as well unless you want a very thick wall. When you put up the tile, you will need to have cement board up for proper adhesion.

Heat area with a heat gun so laminate can be pulled off. Patch and float any place that is not smooth. Make sure all is completely dry before setting tile. No problem setting tile on Sheetrock. Cement board is only needed for wet area, ie. tub or shower area. Be sure to wait a full 24 hours between setting tile and grouting.

I am pretty sure you will need to pull it up and patch the wall. You can then tile over the patched area.
