When it's fixed, be sure to prime the spot before painting. Paint absorbs differently on spackle and drywall compound and will be an obvious spot unless you prime it first.

Drywall, yes?
Id put wadded up paper in the hole, then put drywall tape over the hole & gradually “mud in” the hole. It all depends on how big the hole is.

If a tiny hole you can use white toothpaste-the gel will not work.
