What color do you like? Start with your favorite color and go from there. I love aquas and teals, so most of my house has those colors and they make me happy no matter the size of the room.
My friend has a small kitchen and painted it yellow it is bright and cheery.
I think a light color is best because it makes the kitchen look larger.
I would use a lighter color on the cabinets in a small kitchen, it will look bigger.
