It’s mouldings like baseboard or window casing made of MDF. That means medium density fibreboard. A very affordable material. :)

Trim/molding that is made out of MDF. Either primed, painted, or fake woodgrain paper applied. MDF is recycled paper mixed with resins and heat formed under pressure into sheets.

Medium density fiberboard (MDF) is a composite product used in many home and professional projects, such as furniture, cabinetry, flooring and even speaker boxes due to its smooth finish, machinability, strength and consistency.

  • MDF is sometimes cheaper than wood. I hate it because it's super heavy, makes a huge mess when cut and if it gets wet, it looks horrible.

However, for wall molding in a dry room, I use it because it's straighter than wood trim molding. Metrie makes some lovely MDF trim (sold at Lowes.)
