Are rust resistant apple trees really safe to plant around cedar trees?

I would like to plant a small orchard in my yard, but we have tons of cedar trees all over the neighborhood. I'd like to know if anyone has had any luck with rust resistant apples like Liberty and Redfree. Also, does anyone know if pears are a safe option, or if there are rust resistant pear varieties?

Those cultivars get the stamp of approval from the University of Nebraska extension service, Katie, as do William's Pride and Freedom. I haven't seen an equivalent list for pears, possibly because they are only a secondary carrier for the disease.
