This is a counter top I tlled. The object was a work bench my husband made me but I did not want to use it for that. This is not in a kitchen. I used bull nose tiles for the front and the others I set very close together (no grout) You could also use laminate, which we have had in our kitchen at least 30 years. It is very inexpensive and I have not grown tired of it. But the kitchen remodeler installed it.
