Freda....You need correct instructions from people that do the ramps. Check with your city or county managers and see if they can help get this information to you. We have churches in our area that will do this for disabled and elderly people. They have precise instructions as well as dimensions they must abide by. It depends on the height and length as a turn may be needed in order for the ramp not to be too steep. I know very little as you can tell but I do know the work they have done for so many and it is a wonderful project to help those that need it. Good luck!

You need to give us much more information.... 1) are there stairs from the house? how many? and from ground to landing height? how long a run from the top of the ramp to the sidewalk?

Another group who builds wheelchair ramps are Habitat for Humanity. Senior & Disabled Services also usually has the name(s) of people who willl build them for you.

Wheelchairs ramps are regulated by building codes and the ADA. Can't just build a ramp that can be a danger and unsafe.

Is this to be a temporary structure (like post knee surgery or something and you just need to get someone in once for recovery) or a permanent structure? If temporary, you might be able to get away with something quick, but if long term, you will need to meet building codes for sure. Check with your local municipality office that issues building permits. They will likely be happy to help.
