You will have to pull up your wood decking and then install or have installed the concrete patio. Depending upon the size, it may be much easier to have the patio installed. You must be careful installing a concrete patio to make sure that it drains away from your home.

  • Remove everything that is currently in place. Then you can frame for the concrete pour. I highly suggest hiring out as if not done correctly, it can cause a lot of problems (waster intrusion), that will be very expensive to repair.

    Hi Sonia,

Strip out the Deck and all it's fixings and put aside or dispose off as necessary(Not able to use timber for another project such as Planters etc.). Level the ground and compact it using a roller. If you just want concrete , you will need to Line the area using Timber and Pegs to keep timber former in place. Then order ready mixed concrete to be delivered (enough to cover square yardage from supplier) They will need access to the site. Otherwise hire a concrete mixer and do the job in sections, or lay sand over the patio area and lay patio slabs butted together. This is best done with a line of bricks laid on mortar, all around to keep them in place. Best wishes.

Are you sure you want to do this? Most people cover concrete patios with a wood deck because you can have it at threshold height for comfort and it's warmer and drier than concrete. I like a wood deck covered with a large patio rug.

Yes a rug will really brighten it up, or paint the wooden floors. I painted mine gray several years ago, and it looks fantastic!
