My husband recently put a dowel rod up in a section of a room that had no closet rod. He bought a semi circular tab to nail to the wall on each end, and cut the dowel to fit into the ends that were connected to the wall. It was easy to do and the dowel is about an inch or more thick so it does not bend or anything. Hope this helps, Nikie. It was an easy fix.

The semi circular tabs Desertrose is referring to are called rod hangers. Lowes has them for a few dollars. Get a rod that will fit and a screwdriver and you'll be good to go.

HOme Depot and Lowes sell the circles that you use to put up a rod. They also sell the rods and dowels.

You didn't mention the width that is needed. If you use a wooden rod you may need to put an L bracket ( they are made for rods)i n the center. There are actual closet rods or you can use a metal pipe. Visit Home Depot or Lowes shelf department for ideas.

Hang your clothes on the hooks. They should be large enough to hold several heavy things and not touch the floor. The hooks should be at a height that is comfortable for you.

You can also buy a cross bar separately. For example, a ""U""-shaped hanger is a kind of coat rack. Such detail will be appropriate in a dressing room, a minimalist Scandinavian interior, or a loft-style. I would recommend making or purchasing a separate shoe compartment, which I did to store my Women's Cyber Punk Platform Sneakers.
