Having lived in an old house most of my life, I've learned the importance of closing every nook and cranny. Caulk, spray foam, steel wool are your friends. Door sweeps below doors help, too.

Agree with Cynthia, when I moved into my old house it was covered inside with spider webs....... eeks. I got out my caulk gun and did all the crown molding, baseboards and window casings. I put one of those screen drain covers in the tub after seeing them in the bathroom.

Then I use a Carpenter Ant & Termite spray on my foundation outside, around door thresholds. I do this 2x a year in Spring & Fall. I wear a mask, eye googles and gloves. I spray right up to where the wood joins the concrete.

There is a great product you can buy at any big box store called Home Defense. It comes with it's own sprayer or you can use any hand sprayer. I spray the doorways and window sills, as well as inside the heater vents and behind heavy furniture you may not move a lot. Lasts for six months. Takes care of most bugs, including spiders. I live in the South where bugs are a year round thing. Works well.
