You can be rid of fleas in the home with soap and water, but you have to rid it of whatever is bringing it in. Do you have a pet coming in from out of doors and bringing them in? If so, they need bathed daily until the yard is rid of fleas. Sevin dust will rid the yard of fleas, especially if you place it in the areas where a pet prefers to lie. Your pets can get ill from Sevin dust if they are in it too much or are pups/kittens. Keep them out if the area of the yard where you put Sevin dust if you can. We did this and we got rid of them.

There is, but it is a lot of hard work and doesn't resolve things immediately. Fleas lay eggs that hatch every two weeks. You have to break that cycle. I vacuumed every single day. Every surface. Empty the bag outside. If you have a bag you change, seal it, and put it in the outside garbage. I found most if not all of the carpet sprinkles for flea control contain diatomaceous earth. It will dehydrate the eggs. You are going to have to bag up and seal anything you can't wash and dry in heavy garbage bags that remain for the duration of your battle. On a personal note, when you finally vanquish the fleas, prepare yourself for opening those bags (I would do it outside) because you will find full grown, dead fleas who hatched and died in those bags. My house was the cleanest it has ever been, uncluttered and I shed many tears as I struggled with it. Our pets went for grooming and flea dips which helped more than I can say. It was at least six weeks of being miserable, but, the time and hard work was worthwhile. I had dealt with fleas years before and used an exterminator. It cost a lot, involved dangerous chemicals, and still required my efforts to clean, wash, bag, vacuum, treat my pets, etc. This time, we skipped the chemicals and cost. Treating our pets with the flea dip and drops was still necessary. With growing children I wasn't comfortable with the chemicals they had previously used on every surface.
