They hate mint, I use Victors or EcoSmart non-toxic Ant & Spider insecticide.

I always just mix up some peppermint oil with a little witch hazel and water! About 40 drops in an 8 ounce bottle, and maybe 2 tablespoons of witch hazel! If they are really stubborn, I will sometimes add a little borax and let it dissolve. Spray the area every 3-4 days for the first couple weeks and then once a month as maintenance! Hope this helps!
