All you have to do is put water in the crockpot and let it get hot before you put in the hinges. Let t hem sit for about 30 minutes, take them out with tongs, rinse them under cold water, and brush them off with an old toothbrush. It works very well! You can do the same thing with a pot of boiling water on your stove. Just get the water hot, turn it off, drop the hinges in, 30 minutes later cool them down with cold water and brush off

She is a fountain of knowledge when it comes to rehabbing and making very old items look like new again. She suggests to use a crock pot for removing layers of paint on any hardware. Just fill the crock pot about half full with water, and drop the hardware in. Set it on low and let it soak overnight. Soak them in boiling water on the stove for about 30 minutes depending on how thick the paint is. It will then peel off easily.
