DIY Double Sided-No Sew Fall Pillow

I found this 'Hello Fall" placemat at our local Dollar Store recently, and while it was the only one left, I just had to buy it. I mean it was only $2 and I figured someday I'd find a use for it!

Well, that day came sooner than later when I went online to shop for some new fall pillows to decorate our entryway bench! I just couldn't believe how much they wanted for one of them!

I don't sew, but I have made pillows before using pretty fabrics and fusion tape. So instead of going out and buying fabric (would kind of defeat the money saving purpose), I decided to use what I already had. That included this fun placemat, along with a one of the buffalo check placemats I purchased last winter.

Since I didn't have any poly-fill for my pillow, I decided to use an existing pillow that had seen better days.

Thankfully, the buffalo check placemat was a bit bigger than the fall one so I would have just enough excess to cover the pillow. The first step was to lay both placemats down wrong side up on a clean flat surface.

Then I measured and cut the fusion tape and pressed the sticky side down onto the center of the buffalo check placemat's edge.

To seal each of the three sides (leave the bottom open) I just removed the top layer of the tape and folded the side over. Then I used a hot iron and pressed down firmly along the edges.

Then I turned the placemats right side in and stuffed in my pillow. The last step was just to place a strip of the fusion tape down and seal it with the hot iron.

Now I have a dual purpose pillow to use in the fall or flip it over....

And use the other side all winter long! This project was so easy that I'm definitely going to pick up a few more fun (and pretty) placemats to make a few more pillows for fall and Christmas too!
