How do I fix a butcher block counter top that was oversanded?

How do I fix a butcher block counter top. I put a first coat of poly acrylic and used an orbital sander the sander destroyed the finish and stain with the 220 grit sand paper?

    You don't need to use an orbital sander after you put a layer of polycrylic on. Hand sanding would be better just very lightly in between coats. Did it get right down to bare wood? If so, you might need to start from scratch and restain it.

    Is there a special reason for using poly on your butcher block? I ask because the surface will scratch and you will have to redo the entire thing eventually. If you oil it and do regular maintenance, it will always look beautiful, with very little effort.
