Hey Fran! To get rid of fruit flies, they make really great hanging sticky traps like these. Then prevent getting them by storing your produce in the fridge, or covering it. Also changing your trash can frequently can be a big help.

    Fruit Fly Trap

You can make a fruit fly trap. Cut a plastic bottle about 2/3 of the way up. Remove the screw top lid. Squirt a little dish soap in the bottom, add 2 Tbsp apple cider vinegar, 1 Tbsp sugar, 1/2 cup warm water (dissolve the sugar). Place the top inverted into the bottom. They will fly into the neck to get at the solution but won't be able to escape.

    Hi Fran,

What you have to do is interrupt their life cycles. To do that, you have to immediately wash any produce you bring into the home, it has eggs layed onto the surface of the produce, then refrigerate it, with the exception of bananas.

From there, Then put 1/2 cup baqking soda on to the top of your kitchen drains followed by 1 cup white vinegar, when the fizzing stops, rinse liberally with hot water, you might want to consider placing a stopper onto the drains to prevent further infestation.

For the air borne fruit flies, get sticky pads from Walmart-in the pest control section), peel off the plastic layer and leave it flat with a small piece of decaying fruit in the center of it. They will be drawn to it and attempt to land, stuck forever.

Say good bye to your problem. Best to you.
