You will need some soft, slightly stretchy fabric, the cat neck pillow pattern ( download the free pattern from my blog!), stuffing, embroidery thread, medium weight interfacing, a couple of snaps, and general sewing supplies.
Cat Neck Pillow
Are you a cat person or a dog person? If you love cats like our family does, you'll definitely want to make one of these cat shaped neck pillows!
Trace around the pattern pieces on folded fabric, so you'll get two pieces each. Pin the fabric and mark where the tail will be inserted.
Trace the strap piece twice onto the interfacing, iron it on to the strap fabric, cut out, fold them in half and sew across and down. Then sew around the edges of the tail and ear pieces. Leave one open side for each piece to flip them right way out.
Insert the tail from the inside so that it fits between A and B. Insert the strap pieces from the inside so that they fit at C in the center top. Mark D and E towards the top right.
Sew around the pillow along the traced line from point E to point D, then trim off the excess fabric.
Turn the pillow right side out and stuff it. Close the opening with the invisible stitch. (Otherwise known as the ladder stitch. Learn here how to sew the invisible stitch!)
Pinch the bottoms of the ears and sew them in place.
Sew on eyes and nose of a contrast color, then embroider whiskers and pupils.
Add snaps to the straps, and you're all done!
There's your cat shaped neck pillow, all ready to travel! Or, just use it for relaxing at home. My kids can't seem to ever take theirs off!
