How do I remove the backsplash by the edge of my counter?

I bought a new stove that has no part sticking up at the back edge. I wang to put in a new backsplash but I’d like to remote the backsplash edge of the countertop. They look like they are two separate pieces, but I’m not sure. Is there a way to remove this so my new backsplash will run evenly across my wall?

Hi Ejjemom. You will need to see if the backsplash is glued to the wall. If it is, there's a lot of work involved in getting it off and the drywall will more than likely be badly damaged. You will need to either patch or replace that section of drywall. However, if it's not glued, where the two pieces come together, you can use a knife and remove the caulking that water-proofs the break between the 4 inch backsplash and the countertop. You can then remove the backsplash. Good luck!

I totally get why you want to do this, but one thing to consider is that you don't really know how nice the back edge of your countertop is. The piece against the wall may be hiding something ugly. You also may have issues with water going down the back of the countertops if you remove it. Not insurmountable, but things to be aware of.
