Stenciled Essentials For Your Boho Picnic Decor

First Bohemian stenciled essential is a wood pallet!

The wood pallet may be the biggest part of your boho decor, but it’s definitely the cheapest! Stores will leave them roadside to be picked up for recycling. This is your chance to scoop one up and repurpose it for free! Before painting, give it a good sanding with 120-220 grit sandpaper. When you’re done, dust it off as well as you can.  Before stenciling whitewash your wood pallet with Navajo White paint in a flat latex finish by Benjamin Moore You can do this by adding a little bit of white paint to a roller, and lightly roll the paint on the pallet so that some original wood is still peeking through. A great part about the white washing technique is that it takes almost no time to dry! 

These stencils are reusable, so we used them on three different boho essentials, getting the most for our dollar! For the stenciled wood pallet, we used the Neera Bone Inlay Furniture Stencil Kit. Spray the back of your inlay stencil with repositionable spray adhesive and place it on the wood pallet once your paint is dry. Pat down the stencil to make sure it sticks to the wood. 

For a distressed look, take a 4" Dense Foam Roller and unevenly apply Benjamin Moore’s Black paint in a flat latex finish onto it. You can do this by rolling the paint on with more pressure in some areas and lighter pressure in others. Keep in mind you don’t want to press too hard or you will get some stencil bleed.

Second Bohemian stenciled essential is a wood crate!

We chose to stencil a wood crate as another DIY boho decor essential because of it’s functionality. This $12 wooden crate from Michaels can be used to transport your food/decor to your picnic area. Once there, flip it on its side and it’ll into a small side table! We used the Neera Inlay stencil again on the wooden crate because we wanted to match it with our makeshift stenciled pallet table! We simply repeated the same stenciling process as the pallet and loved how it came out!

Third Bohemian stenciled essential is placemats!

Stenciling on fabric is SUPER EASY! It’s just like regular stenciling, all you need is fabric paint. A budget-friendly place to purchase outdoor place settings is the dollar store. We only spent $4 on our placemats and found some funky outdoor decor while we were there! Cutting Edge Stencils sells Jacquard fabric paint in a variety of colors. Wanting to utilize the entire Neera Bone Inlay Furniture Stencil Kit, we used the remaining border stencils for our placemats. It’s a less dramatic look but still ties the entire stenciled boho decor together. Take a Professional Stencil Brush and pounce the White Jacquard fabric paint over your inlay border stencil on the black placemats. Then take your Black Jacquard fabric paint and do that same on your tan and white placemats. Don’t be afraid to mix and match! 

It’s amazing that we used ONE inlay stencil for THREE different projects! 

We used the Ikat Saida Allover Stencil to stencil an old blanket we never used…until now! The stencil pattern definitely fit the boho look we were aiming for and the size of the wall stencil made it a super quick stenciling job. We used the Black Jacquard fabric paint and the dense foam roller to stencil our picnic blanket!

The best way to avoid stencil bleed while stenciling on fabric is to apply spray adhesive to the back of the stencil and evenly load the paint on your dense foam roller All of our wall stencils come with registration marks to easily align the stencil for your next repeat. We recommend waiting 2 minutes in between repeats to allow the paint to dry.

Whether you decide to stencil a trendy tablecloth or picnic blanket, you shouldn’t have to worry about losing your stencil design in the washing machine. Once the paint is dry, place a piece of fabric over your accessory. Then, put your iron over it and heat set it.

The fifth Bohemian stenciled essential is a serving tray!

Never judge the size of a DIY project! This small craft stencil project used more than half the stencils in the Large Asha Bone Inlay Furniture Stencil Kit. All the border stencils included in the large inlay stencil kit brought it to the next level of beauty! The best part about this serving tray is that we used the same paint from the wood pallet and crate so no paint went to waste!
