Can you recommend a gutter protection to install with a new roof?

Unfortunately we need a new roof. What type of gutter protection opinions can you share. I live in Michigan we experience all season weather. Current gutter protection is a mesh and still need to be cleaned as silt get's through and cloggs gutters. Thank you

What ever gutter guard you use something will still get through. I have used the brush guard that is inserted inside and the surface would trap leaves and branches, I just removed plastic guard with holes and nylon mesh. It did work keeping the gutters clean, but in heavy rain the rain rolled past it an over. In winter icicles formed on the gutters. Personally I would not recommend any gutter guard. What I did was make a long gutter cleaner out of PVC pipe that garden hose hooks up on bottom and washes everything away. They also sell similar but it cost me less to make to my specs.

    Hi Tami,

Al I can do is share my personal experience with the gutter guards that are made of plastic screen with a loose pattern. It was next to useless althought cheap. It amounted to an open mesh and brackets that "kept" out leaves and debris. What a waste of time and money. I do not have a viable plan for you, only what did not work well for us. Best to you.

  • Here in Australia you can buy one that has a cover with holes that slots into the gutters to prevent a build up of leaves.

  • I had screen gutter covers. Utterly useless. The leaves plastered themselves on top of the screens. Totally defeated the purpose of having gutters. I took them off. Now I clean them out in the spring and again in the fall after all the leaves have dropped.
