Are wood shutters or composite shutters better for a southern home?

We live in Tennessee and are looking into purchasing plantation shutters for our inside windows. Most of our windows get a lot of sun. One company is telling me wood shutters are better and one is telling me composite shutters are better. I am confused and would like opinions or experiences with the two types. Thank you.

Wood shutters are very heavy making them harder to install. Either will work inside, but personally if you're going with shutters, I would go with composite. However, consider one thing: I have had two inch blinds (not shutters, but similar) in two different houses (in the south) for the last 20 years. I will be moving soon and will never put blinds or shutters in my house again. Why?? Because every single one of the slats is a dust catcher. If you have several shutters, you will probably get very tired of cleaning them. Since they are fairly expensive, you will probably keep them for many years. In my new home, I am going back to plain simple pull down shades. You can get room darkening or light filtering. They are inexpensive will keep the sun out and best of all won't catch dust. Just something to consider, before making an investment in shutters.

Maybe I misunderstood but I assumed they were outside shudders. I like wood cause

    composite will fade

in a few years but that may not be what you were

We live in southern Nevada and we put in composite shutters.the y have been up now for 2 very hot summers and they still look brand new. We love them and they really make a big difference in the comfort of our home.
