How can I paint laminate kitchen cabinets?

These are cheap press board cabinets covered with wood look "contract paper" like lanimate. They came like this new, were installed by the manufacturer. Not sure what type of paint is best? If I should try to sand them or if there Is something that will cover the wear spots, or places it's peeled? It in a mobile home, kitchen and bath. Any help greatly appreciated. Thanks in advance Jeani

Yes, but use a good gripping primer and a good acrylic paint either from Ben Moore or Sherwin Williams.

It's best to start with a good scrubbing using TSP (tri-sodium phosphate) or TSP substitute. Once the cabinets are dry, use a couple of coats of a good gripping primer, followed by two to three coats of paint. I hope this helps!
