Julie, you shouldn't need to sand much. Peel off the old laminate, use contact adhesive on both the substrate and the new sheet of laminate, then adhere and roll out air bubbles. A small edge hand router works well to trim off excess sheet laminate

Hi Julie! If the laminate is in good condition I would use gel stain over the laminate! :)

Gel stain works great over laminate and you can seal it with a poly. Here is link for the gel stain. :) It also comes in other colors. No priming or sanding required!

You could paint it with chalk paint -- no sanding it required. This video tutorial is for cabinets, but the technique is basically the same: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=IOdULB4YU4c

    Hi,

    # 1 why are you removing it ?? You can go over the old. Sand it first, then contact cement the new over the old. Trim all the edges smooth.

Have someone how has done this before to help you.
