Is it safe to have an extension cord on the ground all year?
I recently added string lights to my patio -- I hung them on DIY string light poles that I sunk in quick cement in planters. The problem is that to reach our outdoor outlet, I have an outdoor extension cord that runs along the edge of our patio for about 10 feet. I would like to keep the lights up year-round, as the lights take quite a bit of work to put up. Is it safe to have the extension cord on the ground all year? Is there anything I can do to protect the cord and ensure safety? Thanks!

Even if the extension cord is exterior gauge, it is recommended to have it up off the ground, as
(1) a safety measure against tripping, and
(2) to help prevent it shorting out, due to becoming wet
Waterproof extension cord connection covers are available.
Hi Lauren. I'm Cindy. As long as your extension cord is rated for outdoor use, you should have no problem. A lot of people leave cords outside for their Christmas lights. My husband recommends that you change the extension cord every couple years. Make sure that your exterior outlet is a GFI.
put it inside some conduit or PVC pipes
