How can I transplant my clematis in the middle of the winter?

I plan to be moving in January and want to bring my clematis with me (I live in Vermont), problem is by January the ground will probably be frozen. Is there a way I can dig it up earlier and store it some way until next spring without hurting it?

Dig up, place in a pot or pots and shelter in garage or shed until you move and can get back in the ground. Keep damp, but not soggy.

Yup, dig it put and put it in a pot, it will need to stay in a dormant state until you are ready to plant. Add water as needed.
